Professor Roberto Cordon will hold a lecture February 13, 2020 at The Social in Lugano. His talk will explore the ways in which the concept of leadership has evolved over time through the lenses of some specific analytical frameworks.
Professr Cordon cites Peter Drucker, a well-known management theorist, who stated in his 1954 book, Practice in Management, that “management is about doing things right; leadership is about doing the right things.” In this context, Drucker suggests that leadership is about getting things done, and pushing (or motivating) others to join the process.
Professor Cordon commented, "In recent decades the word “leadership” has often become a cheap buzz word, overhyped, misunderstood and exploited. [...] Like everything else worth learning, a study of leadership should be built on rigorous theories and analysis." Given the increasing demand for learning effective leadership, Professor Cordon will present research and theory that can provide context for evaluating the effectiveness of a leader. Ultimately, he will try to address the perennial question: "Is there a path towards becoming a leader?"
